Press Release

Kitchener-Waterloo, ON (January 18, 2010) – The Canadian Cancer Society Waterloo Region Unit is excited to announce a brand new event added to their annual spring campaign for 2010. On April 7, 2010, in collaboration with an enthusiastic committee of local fashion gurus, the Waterloo Region Unit will be presenting their inaugural Fashion for Life fashion show.

Fashion for Life brings together designers, celebrities and industry professionals for a celebration of style.

“We’re just thrilled about this event,” shares Karen Griffiths, Unit Manager for the Waterloo Region Unit. “Fashion for Life will include two shows at St. George Banquet Hall in Waterloo – an Afternoon of Elegance and an Evening of Opulence.”

Each show will seat 500 and feature local fashions, hair, make up and models from Gemini Models in Kitchener. Also at each show will be a selection of amazing door prizes to be given away including trips, jewellery and spa getaways – “all fitting with the elegance and opulence themes of this glamorous event,” adds Griffiths.

Although Fashion for Life will be the first event of its kind in this region raising funds in support of life saving cancer research and support services for those living with cancer, its beginnings are deeply rooted in our community. Evolving from the past Daffodil Tea and Fashion Extravaganza, that, after 57 years was retired along with its long time convener Lillian Weiss in 2009, the show is set to lavish attendees in style. For 20 years Weiss coordinated the Daffodil Tea raising over $600,000 and her spirit and passion for the cause, has incited Fashion for Life to take up the call.

Tickets are $50 each and are available through Gemini Models. Purchasing corporate tables is encouraged and sponsorship opportunities are still available. Check out the website www.fashionforlife.ca for more details.

“Cancer touches so many of our lives,” says Audrey Wilson, CEO, Gemini Models and Fashion Show producer of the show. “Fashion for Life will be a unique way of joining the fight against this terrible disease, celebrating life and doing it all with style.”
